About this listen

Thirteen years ago, surgeon Edward Hammond performed a life-saving operation on Serbian gangster Dragan Gazi. Now Gazi is standing trial for war crimes at the international court in The Hague. After Hammond saved his life, Gazi's men went on to slaughter thousands in the Balkan civil wars.

Now, in exchange for keeping Hammond's dirty little secret, Gazi's family want a small favour: to find the man who knows what happened to Gazi's money. But Italian financier Marco Piravani doesn't want to be found. And no sooner has Hammond tracked him down than he disappears again. Hammond has no choice but to set off across Europe in pursuit.

In Blood Count, every action has a consequence and every question must have an answer. Only then might Hammond be able to lay the past to rest...

Gripping story, excellent narration, interesting research, believable characters. The best reading of one of Robert Goddard’s books on Audible.

Gripping story, excellent narration

This is another fantastic story from Robert Goddard - it draws you in and keeps you there. There are some unexpected twists and turns just when you think you have everything figured out. I couldn’t stop listening but at the same time did not want to finish it. Beautifully read - can’t wait for the next one!

Fantastic gripping story

In the hands of a narrator less skilled than James Goode, this might not have worked, but he can do any accent or voice. An extraordinary performance which sounds properly rehearsed and researched rather than rattled off like so many.
I’m a huge fan of Robert Goddard anyway, so this was a treat.

Excellent Narration

The plot has more twists and turns than, as someone previously stated, a twisty turny thing and was enough to hold my attention without me getting lost. I actually really enjoyed it but this is the last Robert Goddard for me because I've either read or listened to every single book he's ever written. So please hurry up and write some more!!! James Goode's narration is absolutely brilliant by the way!!

The performance makes it for me

Had me on the edge of my seat all the way through. Pity it ended!

Plot was great

I have listened to/read all but two of RG’s books which has left me with high expectations. While this book is acceptable, I would not have bought it if I had known what it was like beforehand. I did listen to the end, but throughout I felt it was somehow formulaic in its plot and phrasing. It was not helped by the rather reverential tone of the narrator who, although very good at the many and disparate voices required, reinforced the wordiness of the account and its (too frequent) soliloquies.
I think this book was not typical of RG and look forward to the remaining two books and their successors.

Moderate novel read by a moderate narrator

Felt this book went on too long, nearly abandoned it a few times. Was not rewarded with the ending. My second of this author’s books, bit disappointed

Very long
