About this listen

F. Paul Wilson’s powerful World War II novel is an unforgettable historical saga of passion and terror, the ravages of war, the pain of betrayal, and the glory of love.

At the heart of the story are four people torn between love and honor: Matsuo Okumo, born in Japan, raised in America, and hated in both lands; Hiroki Okumo, his brother, a modern samurai sworn to serve a secret cult and the almighty Emperor; Meiko Satsuma, the woman they both love; and Frank Slater, the American who turned away when Matsuo needed him, and who now struggles to repay his debt of honor.

One of F Paul Wilson's best standalone stories. All of the characters are given life by the narrator and you are taken along the story through the year. Well worth a listen

Great book and production

What an absolute masterclass in mixing fantasy with historical events. Wilson expertly captures the tense conflict between the USA and Japan in the led up to and during WW2, whilst throwing his own brand of dark fantasy writing into the mix at the same time. You can tell he did a shed load of historical and cultural research for this book and it sits easily in my favourite top ten novels list.

Do not miss out.
