About this listen

Bill Nighy reads Frank L Baum's true American classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Swept away from her home in Kansas by a tornado, Dorothy and her dog Toto find themselves stranded in the fantastical Land of Oz. As instructed by the Good Witch of the North and the Munchkins, Dorothy sets off on the yellow brick road to try and find her way to the Emerald City and the Wizard of Oz, who can help her get home. With her companions the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, Dorothy experiences an adventure full of friendship, enchantment and danger.

A much-loved children's classic, The Wizard of Oz continues to delight young and old with its enchanting tale of witches, flying monkeys and magical shoes. This is part of AudioGO's 'Famous Fiction' range.

I just loved the nice calm voice, the story was lovely, and it really has that feeling of calmness. Personally, I think they move the story along to fast, but I don’t like to be negative. All in all, it’s lovely.

Absolutely lovely! 😊😌

I started listening to this purely because I love Bill Nighy & wanted something gentle to listen to as I attempted sleep (insomnia is a demon).

Bill's voice is soothing & the story, while not true to the movie, is good with a few laughs. I’ve listened to it several times now & find it very enjoyable, even as a fully grown & mature (debateable!) woman.

Love Bill's voice.

This was one of my first ventures back into audiobooks in a long, long time and I'm so glad I started with this one.

Nighy is an incredible narrator, who puts passion and personality into the characters he portrays so expertly that I instantly went to find other stories that he had delivered. His voice and diction are perfectly suited to a classic tale such as The Wizard of Oz and he is a true credit, and absolutely makes this version what it is.

As this is an abridged version of the story, which differs quite significantly from the plot of the major movie starring Judy Garland, reading/listening to this version is a must for anyone who enjoyed the film. This version, at only an hour long, is suitable for children, young adults, and adults alike, however, adults may be left feeling as if the story is rushed and there are limited descriptive factors. Those not aware of the movie may be left feeling there is limited character and story development and needing much more than this version can deliver.

A nice quick audiobook for those looking for a (reasonably!) light-hearted story about a young girl that melts witches.

Fantastic narration and different from the movie!

I can listen to this over and over again just because of the narrator; I'm glad I found this one read by Bill Nighy.
