About this listen

A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about . . . farming????

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I'm stuck in his body.

Out in the middle of nowhere, I've managed to escape a life of cultivation and politics. Until now, that is. I guess it was inevitable they caught up with me eventually. I haven't exactly been subtle. You know, what with the talking animals performing heroics all over the Azure Hills and Xiulan constantly calling me a Hidden Master.

A part of me wants to run away again. The memory of my death still haunts my dreams. But this is my home now. And I'll be damned if I give it up without a fight.

I mean, all I have to do is learn how to navigate xianxia politics and train for battle while simultaneously running my farm and uncovering an ancient cataclysm that apparently destroyed the Azure Hills back in the day.

Meanwhile, I'm about to be a father . . . Man, I'm kinda screwed, aren't I? At least I can call in the cavalry—ahem, poultry—to help.

The fourth volume of the blockbuster progression-fantasy series—with more than 20 million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Still a good book

Unfortunately this book seems to be getting worse. The storie is still go and I'm still enjoying the book but it's no where near as funny as book one. I still plan on continuing this series but not looking forward to the next book like I did with the previous.

Book 3.5

This is more "tales from the far raam" than book 4. It's not bad, just a lot of side stories with little on story progression. A lot of the side stories overlap, and it's slower paced than any of the previous books as a result. The story will continually go to one of the other characters and repeat stuff already said. I think there's maybe two-three hours of actual story progression in this. It also repeats itself a LOT. The same sentences every chapter or two, which did annoy me by the end of it. Also, it feels like the author tried, hard, to pull together the story of the earth spirit to make the titbits given over the other books fit. It does and doesn't work. Don't question it like I did. It's forced and it feels forced. Just accept it for the sake of the story.

Again, the book wasn't bad. I know I sound negative, but it just wasn't what I was hoping for in book 4. It was still "Beware of Chicken". It was still good in that sense.

Myriad Revelations

tl;dr: Less slice-of-life, much world-building, plot lines resolved, character growth in spades, can’t wait for the next one.

Here’s how I rank the books in the series from best to least favourite: 3, 1, 2, 4.

While I rank this book least amongst the series so far, it’s packed full of fantastic world building and plot development.

What lost points for me is that the slice-of-life aspect took a step back; while I appreciate that the author wouldn’t want to repeat content, as that wouldn’t feel particularly satisfying, it felt like the author was rushing to fit in various plot points (which were great). I wanted to see certain side characters overcome their challenges in more detail.

That said, this book still has some solid character development, but I don’t want to give anything away, so I’ll say no more about it.

With the new perspective that this book gives us, I’m excited to see where the series takes us next, especially as there’s at least one event that I’ve been eagerly anticipating for a while now!

Mostly filler

Slow story progression. As another review said it feels like book 3.5 not 4. Will give the next book a chance as I still like the premise and the story. Just hope there will be more of it in the next one.
