About this listen

Daniel Loveless and Charlotte McManus—aka Charlie—have been best friends since forever. Together, they’ve made it through everything from middle school dances to Daniel finding out he had a daughter, and they’re still thick as thieves. Faking an engagement, though? That’s… a lot.

When single dad Daniel shows up at a routine court appearance only to learn his newly-married ex is filing for custody and plans to take his 7-year old daughter out of state with her, he panics. His daughter—precocious, opinionated, blackmailing Rusty—is his life. So he tells the judge he’s also engaged, to the one person he can always count on—Charlie. His chaotic, charming, impulsive, platonic best friend, Charlie.

If anyone’s going to believe they’re together, they’re going to need to act like it: going on dates. Holding hands. Being cute in public. And… kissing. A lot of kissing, actually, because once they start it’s nearly impossible to stop. How did Daniel never notice how soft Charlie’s lips are? How well her carpenter’s coveralls fit? How her wild, curly hair is perfect for sinking his fingers into? Except that Charlie’s as irresponsible as she is pretty, and Daniel needs someone who he can count on to help corral his daughter, or at least someone who knows what day of the week it is.

Friendship is fine, but anything more serious? It might be too risky.

Best Fake Fiancé is the second book in the Loveless Brothers series, and can be listened to as a total standalone. It's for fans of high-heat, low-angst romantic comedies and anyone who loves a single dad who gets fake engaged. This one's got tons of sibling banter, a big family, an adorable kid who never gives her dad a break, all the friends-to-lovers swoon you can handle, and a small town where everyone knows everything. It's steamy, hilarious, and it's got an HEA. (And yes, it bangs).

Absolutely loved the story, Roxie Noir is fast becoming a favourite. Thor Tom does sometimes sound like he’s reading his shopping list rather than narrating a love story, but once I got used to it I was completely engrossed. Can’t wait to listen to the next Loveless story!

Great story, male voice actor a bit annoying

This book can be enjoyed as a complete stand alone, though characters from the rest of the series appear frequently in this book.

I really liked Daniel and Charlie & their family dynamics and the single dad trope is a favorite of mine I would have liked more from the Rusty (Daniel’s daughter) / Charlie relationship.
I hadn’t read the first book in the series and found this book worked fine as a standalone.
Looking forward to reading more of this series!

Narration:
3.5 stars
Enjoyed the narration overall as it brought the characters to life Rusty’s voice frequently sounded bratty which was wrong for her character.
Narration painfully slow at 1x speed - listened at 1.8-2x speed but female narration clearer at this speed than the male narration, so sometimes changed the speed when the narrator changed or sometimes just missed some words.

Great characters!
