About this listen

Bring history back to life through Jim Hodges' historically accurate, exciting, and edifying audio recordings.

Beric, a boy chief of a British tribe, takes a prominent part in the insurrection against Rome under Queen Boadicea. These efforts are useless against the mighty Roman army. For a short time, Beric and his companions continue the fight but are ultimately defeated and taken as prisoners to Rome. Through the eyes of Beric, the listener learns of life in AD 61 Rome, the gladiatorial schools, the great fire, and life in Nero's court. This classic work will shed light upon an event much neglected in history today.

The Henty Historical Novel Collection, written by George Henty in the 1800s, covers many time periods in history throughout the world. In this collection you will learn history, geography, and vocabulary while also discovering hero characters for your children to emulate.

A good story well read I enjoyed it very much it crept me enthralled every night.

Time well spent

Promising story badly narrated. Every 2nd sentence sounds as a surprise. Unable to finish listening.

Mono tone reader

only wished the narrator had a British accent and a few more differing dialects when voicing other characters, but do not let this stop you from this great yarn!

A great story, visioned well.

I cannot comment on the story as I couldn’t get past the terrible nasal American sounding reader and stopped listening purely because of this. Awful pronounciations, sing songs-y inappropriate accent, which made every sentence a question….

Why not use a British voice?

Sadly could not listen to this audiobook due to the poor narration.
Sounds like a Librivox recording.

The narrator, with his monotone American voice, made this story impossible to listen to. There probably is a reasonable story there but after persevering for a couple of hours I could go no further.

Couldn't finish it
