About this listen
Like many of us, James Lindsay is no stranger to stress and anxiety. But in his case, leaving those struggles untreated led to a full psychotic episode that hospitalized him for the better part of a month. With the help of medication and therapy, he has now overcome this dark period and is currently living a much happier life.
But his story doesn't end there. Now, he wants to help others avoid the same fate by sharing his experience, including the red flags he recognizes in hindsight and the path he charted to recovery. No matter where you are on your own journey, James' story will resonate and remind you, as he puts it, that "recovery is always possible, and hope is never far away".

I loved the book from start to finish and it’s amazing to see people talking about real life mental health struggles (specifically psychosis). James really is an advocate for mental health (specifically men’s as it’s not spoken about enough) and he should be SO proud of telling his story. James, you have definitely impacted my life for the better and I soon hope to speak up about my personal story around mental health too!
James’s story goes into great details on how you can help your own mental wellbeing too- (giving music options/ wellbeing apps like headspace & good books he has read)
Another great part of the book is that the audible version is pretty much spoken by the actual people themselves (e.g when he is having conversation with his mum - it’s his mum speaking!) - which is a lovely touch! (clarified by James himself that the majority of the conversation is in fact them! Thanks for replying to me 😊)
Definitely give this book a read/ listen if you want to hear an in depth story of what it’s like struggling with mental health day to day (specifically psychosis). If you are struggling/ struggled in the past yourself it really puts things into perspective and nice to hear other people’s ways that they cope!
Great book and thanks also for reaching out to me personally, you’re doing amazing!
I would recommend this book to anyone for a better insight to what it’s really like being psychotic and the symptoms/ characteristics a psychotic person may portray - as well as how you can help others if they are struggling through a difficult period! (This being a family member, or a friend, you may be able to help if they’re struggling with specific strategies that James gives) 😊❤️
