About this listen

From the international best-selling author of the DCI Ryan mysteries.

In a world gone mad, who can you trust?

Fresh from a high-profile case in the Paris fashion world, elite forensic psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory receives a call from the New York State Homicide Squad. The wife of a notorious criminal has been admitted to a private psychiatric hospital and can no longer testify in his upcoming trial. Without her, their case will collapse, but amid reports that the staff are as unpredictable as their patients, who can the police trust?

In desperation, they turn to an outsider, and now Gregory must find the courage to step inside the fortified walls of Buchanan Hospital to uncover the truth. The question is, will he ever be the same again?

Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst the spectacular Catskill Forest.

Edge of my seat!

In a way, it's a shame that there's a different narrator as I enjoyed Jonathan Keeble's representation of Dr. Gregory, but Richard Armitage is absolutely brilliant.

The story is well paced and cryptic, and Dr. Gregory's background and behaviour is explored in such an empathetic manner that it is impossible not to be invested.

Probably one of her best yet.

Absolutely superb writing.

I always listen to audio books while driving, but this book was so enthralling for the first time ever I had to lock myself away when I reached home to finish the book.

“The Woman’s Lost Her Memory Not Her Mind”.

I’ve really enjoyed the latest episode in the Alexander Gregory by LJ Ross.

The story had lots of twists and turns and great characters. As with the other audiobooks in the series, there were some surprises that I wasn’t expecting at the end.

I was slightly disappointed that the narrator had been changed from the one who narrated the previous episodes. Whilst Richard Armitage was good he wasn’t quite as good as the previous one (Hugh Dancy).

Wrong narrator

If you have enjoyed the first two books in this series, you may find this more problematic. The story may be slightly less strong than the first two but it is the change in narrator that is the issue for me. Richard Armitage is on the whole a good narrator, however he is not the correct choice for this book. If a series is popular do not change the narrator. Armitage is not Alexander Gregory and Hugh Dancy should not have been replaced. The story of a psychologist who has already stepped over the boundary of professional conduct on more than one occasion and enters a psychiatric establishment undercover is stretching the bounds of credulity but then this is fiction and should be read/listened to with that in mind. I am unlikely to listen to the next instalment if Armitage remains as the narrator.

Fabulous!

Once again LJ Ross has pulled it out of the bag!! Really enjoy her style of writing, and with the excellent narration of Richard Armitage that brings all the characters to life it makes for a worthy listen. Although short in comparison to her other books it was packed with content!
Cannot wait for the next listen!

Gripping and touching

An attractive and complex lead character who involves you in his life, narrator's talent in bringing each character to life is compelling
