About this listen

The epic first novel of the legendary science-fiction series.

Thirty meters tall, 70 tons of quick-striding death and destruction, the armored war machines called BattleMechs are the frontline forces of the crumbling star empire locked in the horror of the endless Succession Wars. Their pilots are MechWarriors, 31st-century knights riding armored machines powerful enough to take a city apart.

Grayson Death Carlyle had been training to be a MechWarrior since he was 10 years old, but his graduation came sooner than expected. With his friends and family dead and his father's regiment destroyed, young Grayson finds himself stranded on a world turned hostile. Now he must learn the hardest lesson of all: It takes more than a BattleMech to make a MechWarrior....

But to claim that title, all Grayson has to do is go out and capture one of those giant killing machines...if it doesn't kill him first.

About BattleTech:

Decision at Thunder Rift is one of the first of more than 90 novels set in the BattleTech universe, a 31st-century setting of constant war between planets, nations, and peoples. A ‘Mech is a 12-meter-tall, 100-ton walking war machine. Only another ‘Mech can face one. Mercenary armies battle for pay, for honor, and for causes innumerable.

Although I am mostly a listener of 40k audiobooks, this novel really surprised me in both writing and narrator quality. Better than most sci-fi I've listened to on Audible. absolutely recommended.

A good story that never slowed down enough to get boring

Enjoyed this book, hope the narrator does the other stories around The Gray Death Legion

Great book of the BT universe

Nicely written mech battle story, understanding the background material. Not really that convoluted plot, but great romp of action, just what you would want. Read enthusiastically and clearly with character.

Solid Mechwarrior stuff

it's been years since I first read the battle tech books and this was a great chance to get back into it, right from the start. it's such an amazing, almost timeless science fiction story with great intrigue, some good twists and some great action. I can't wait to get on to the next one in the narration was also really good.

a classic tale and brilliantly read.

I loved the performance and the story of this book, really awesome to finally partake in the battletech books .
The only negative I can think of is probably the sound effect for static on some of the mech to mech intercom, it could be a bit harsh on the ears sometimes. Otherwise perfect

Almost perfect

An enjoyable tale of space opera heroics and the sort of dubious politicking for which the Inner Sphere is renowned.

Entertaining for fans of the Battletech universe
