About this listen

The Kalashnikov AK-47. A weapon with a unique image. A symbol of freedom fighters and terrorists across the globe. Undercover officer Andy Knight has infiltrated an extremist group intent on bringing the rifle to Britain - something MI5 have been struggling for years to prevent.

He befriends Zeinab, the young Muslim student from Yorkshire who is at the centre of the plot. All Zeinab needs to do is travel to the impoverished high-rise estates of Marseilles and bring one rifle home on a test run. Then many more will follow - and with them would come killing on an horrendous scale.

Zeinab is both passionate and attractive, and though Andy knows that the golden rule of undercover work is not to get emotionally attached to the target, sometimes rules are impossible to follow.

Gerald Seymour is at the top of his game, a master story teller, the narration by Leighton Pugh is just the synergy that writers like Seymour deserve, the story has many twists and turns and has a host of interesting characters, Pugh brings these to life but still allows the listener to complete the picture, if you are new to the writings of Gerald Seymour then this is a great place to start.

Excellent from start to finish!

This is Harry "s Game and The Afghan all over again
Vary your style Gerald!

Seymour is getting repetitive in his plots.

I don’t often give 5 stars but this was another excellent Seymour story. Credible (I’ve been there on the periphery at least), brilliantly narrated with decent local accents and compelling. I do like the style of his books and this one, with the thread of the AK47 running throughout, was glorious! Can’t wait for the next …

A ripping yarn!

If you like stories where everyone has to examine their reason for being every other minute and the action is slow paced, then this is for you. The narrators voice got to me at times such that I nearly didn’t finish it. Sorry but not the best story I have listened to.

OK but not brilliant

overall this was disappointing, especially after enjoying the corporals daughter. I felt it did not get going and the story line seemed to drag on and on. 9hrs in and nothing has actually happened!

really struggled to get going

loved this, engaging, developing, well narrated classic Seymour moving into the interface between cultures and values. Enjoy!!

Another finely woven tale of modern life

Disjointed plot, wasn’t worth wading through to the end. Staccato delivery, but caused by the irritating narrative.

Tedious waste of time
