About this listen

Number-one in the John Putnam Thatcher series.

A mystery centered on a family manufacturing business in New England squeezed by lower cost, potentially from a competitor, and the goings-on around it among family members, which leads to murder. Wall-Street banker John Putnam Thatcher solves it through an adroit combination of common sense, knowing people, and, above all, knowing what money will drive people to do, including murder.

I have read Emma Lathan for over 30 years so I was overjoyed to find a series of the novels on Audible. Thank goodness I didn't have to pay full price. The recording is very amateur. The narrator doesn't know how to phrase the narrative or change pace, voice etc to get the full effect. You hear him stumbling over words, running out of breath. I definitely recommend that you don't get the version with music. You have problems hearing the narrative. I got these as I am such a fan of the stories and so I put up with the narration.

Great story but shame about narrator
