About this listen
When a cantankerous old woman dies at her home in the sleepy, picturesque village of Bamburgh, DCI Ryan doesn’t think much of it—except, that is, for the small matter of it having been his wife who happened to find her body. Then another body turns up amongst the sand dunes at the base of the mighty castle fortress, and he decides it can’t be a coincidence....
Meanwhile, after a recent revelation about her sister, DC Melanie Yates’ quest to avenge her death is becoming an obsession—much to the concern of those around her. With a new DCS to contend with and hundreds of cold case files to sift through, the chances of uncovering a dormant killer seem unlikely. But as Melanie delves deeper into the secrets of the past to uncover the truth, she soon realises it lies much closer to home....
Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

Entertaining but
I want to go to the locations… the plot held the interest … in fairness I have listened to the whole series to date… but a few things are really starting to grate. Denise is allegedly from Kerry but has what may be a Donegal accent. Actually she sounds like a female Daniel O’ Donnell. The entire murder squad has lived through the most appalling personal trauma and gosh! HR have made some really bad recruiting choices at senior level. As well as being traumatised, the squad are peculiarly apt to psychologising. Finally someone really needs to kill Ryan off. He is just ridiculously perfect and his marriage is like none I’ve ever seen. I think I prefer my police procedural slightly more gri’iy

This has redeemed the shorties
Back to old self and back to old suspense, excitement and nail biting storytelling. Just hope this goes forward like this for another while.

Di Ryan series
I have listened to every one of this series and hope there will be more. The books are great and the narrator fantastic. His voice fits exactly for each of the characters.

When are they going to pick up for TV
L J Ross once again delivers, have read all her books and enjoyed can’t understand why DCI Ryan has become a TV series . T he contents of the series lends itself to a TV series, I love the way each book has the main focus of Ryan but each book in the series involves a running dialect of his team members and there drives and misfortunes. L J Ross does like her black and white versions of authority figures which also happen maybe too often in real life too.

The pen and the sword
The combination of the author and Jonathan Keeble is one never to be broken. Everyone has heard of the pen being mightier than the sword but in the case of L J Ross it most certainly is. I can't wait for the next chapter

Nerve-wracking!
As usual, twists and turns galore! Bringing together the threads from a previous ongoing storyline with a surprising end. Though there seem to be an alarming number of rogue senior police officers around Ryan!

Gripping
Another gripping book charting the crime~busting DCI Ryan and his team. The way the characters are interwoven through the stories within and within the series encourages you to continue to listen. Now to search for the next one in the series …..

So thrilling
I love the Ryan books by L J Ross, and this one is no exception. The action started very quickly, and continued throughout the book. This one has to be my favourite so far. Brilliantly narrated by Jonathan Keeble.
