About this listen

Paranoia-fuelled Zack Walker has trouble convincing his loved ones to obey his rules for keeping them out of harm's way.

He's even uprooted his family and headed for the tranquillity of the suburbs. But then Zack stumbles upon a body, and a trail of deceit and murder leads right back to his own front door. Suddenly the 'burbs is not looking nearly so safe....

With a killer roaming around their neighbourhood and Zack's overactive imagination in overdrive, he's sure things can't get any worse. But then another local is murdered - and Zack's paranoid tendencies get him implicated in the crime. To protect his family - and avoid being busted for a crime he didn't commit - he's going to have to override his instincts and track down the killer himself.

Good story told well

Very easy to listen too, slow build up but makes you all the more informed when things start happening and the end had me surprised
Another cracking book from Linwood Barclay

Good read

I love the long descriptions with tiny details, that really bring the story to life.

I love this…

.....a little bit different from the usual Linwood Barclay style, but definitely worth a listen!

Brilliantly funny, departure from normal Linwood B

Brilliantly funny, departure from normal for Linwood B. Very dry humour, made me laugh out loud

A very unusual hero

Zack will drive you crazy because he's so darned stupid. You'll be shouting at him to stop being such a bonehead, but he just goes on, ultimately digging an ever deeper hole for himself.
Yet Barclay, again, makes it work. It's way more kooky that the normal mystery, but if you go the distance with Zack its worth the effort.
I can't say I'm on the edge of my seat for the next in the series, but I know that ultimately I'll read it!

Funny and thrilling

I read this series many years ago before I got into audio books. It is a little slow to get going but the funny stuff keeps you interested. I had forgotten mostly what it was about so it was likely starting a new book. It’s very well narrated too, a good holiday read. I definitely recommend.

Always easy to listen to

There is no doubt about it William Hope is a superb narrator, he makes the stories come to life and I find the Linwood Barclay books very easy to listen to when I tuck in ready for sleep in bed.

Zack Walker does things that’ll make you cringe…

…but stick with him and he’ll lead you into a well-plotted, darkly- comic mystery with memorable characters. Narration by William Hope is excellent too.
