About this listen

Bloomsbury presents Ashes of Man by Christopher Ruocchio, read by Samuel Roukin.

The galaxy is burning.

With the Cielcin united under one banner, the Sollan Empire stands alone after the betrayal of the Commonwealth. The Prophet-King of the Cielcin has sent its armies to burn the worlds of men, and worse, there are rumours... whispers that Hadrian Marlowe is dead, killed in the fighting.

But it is not so. Hadrian survived with the help of the witch, Valka, and together they escaped the net of the enemy having learned a terrible truth: the gods that the Cielcin worship are real and will not rest until the universe is dark and cold.

What is more, the Emperor himself is in danger. The Prophet-King has learned to track his movements as he travels along the borders of Imperial space. Now the Cielcin legions are closing in, their swords poised to strike off the head of all mankind.

The fifth novel of the galaxy-spanning Sun Eater series merges the best of space opera and epic fantasy, as Hadrian Marlowe continues down a path that can only end in fire.

I cannot recommend this series enough! Ashes of man just adds to the mystery that is the sun eater series. A captivating ride the whole way through. I have become a fan boy…there is no reasoning with me now

Fantastic

Some of the battles went on a bit and it’s not as good book two.

Great narration

The story or Hadrian Marlow continues in trauma and pain. Brilliantly ominous, who know where Hadrian will end up.

Inevitable

Samuel Roukin is excellent, to the point where I would say I would read books by unknown authors he has narrated. Earlier in this series there was fliting between voice narrators, but they really have it sorted with this one. Really great story

Some of the best writing, character work, and storytelling I've ever read. If you are a patient reader, the payoff of this series is unparalleled. What feels at first slow and unnecessary turns into something wildly wonderful. There's just not much like this out there....

This Book is Simply Everything

Just when you think must be running out of steam, still keeps delivering. Probably not my favourite book in series, but still delivers on building up the saga, and keeps you wanting to carry on with the journey towards the inevitable end.

The shocks and twists keep coming

Like the old Hadrian said we did have the luxury of foresight we knew how it would end and us fools just couldn't resist. foolishness truly foolishness.

A little slow in the middle but worth the payoff. Really enjoyable though. His build up is great!
