About this listen

“Old-school creepy. . . a five-star horror novel.” STEPHEN KING

A mind-bending speculative thriller in which the sudden appearance of a mountain in the middle of the Pacific Ocean leads a group of scientists to a series of jaw-dropping revelations that challenge the notion of what it means to be human.

IF YOU EVER READ THIS,

TELL OTHERS.

DON’T COME HERE.

When a mountain mysteriously appears in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a group of scientists are sent to investigate.

Explorer Harry Tunmore agrees to join the secret mission – and he has his own reasons beyond scientific curiosity . . .

But the higher the team ascend, the stranger things become. Time moves differently. Memories of their lives before the mountain begin to fade.

What, or who, will they discover at the top?

Critic reviews

"Binge has written a profound and elegiac story that examines science, faith and the concept of humanity itself – what it means to live and die, to yearn and strive, and all the spaces in between. I will be thinking about this one for a long time!" (Sunyi Dean, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Book Eaters)

"Both the science and the suspense are perfection, all held together by a robust emotional core. I enjoyed it immensely." (Tade Thompson, award-winning author of Rosewater and Far from The Light of Heaven)

The story is a challenge for a team to climb a mountain with the addition of some philosophy, ethics and quantum physics thrown in for good measure.

The story climbs and ends at the end of the climb.

A story about contemplation, redemption sins and god. it's very good despite getting confusing , but eventually providing all.the answers with satisfying ending

The best way to describe this is a modern scfi take on HP Lovecraft. I enjoyed the story a lot, finding it interesting and full of emotional depth. Some excellent character development that really made the characters feel alive to me.

Narrators performance was excellent, really brought the characters to life for me.

Extremely original would love more descriptions of the environment I found I didn’t care about the characters I didn’t invest .. that being said the originality of the story with the conclusion makes up for it I’ll define read other books from the author

Great story highly recommended. It’s a mixture of sci-fi and horror , as a few scientists climb up a mountain that suddenly appeared in the ocean. They find themselves going crazy and time starts behaving strangely.

Excellent spin on the sci-fi genre you’d know from
The 70s and 80s. I loved the protagonist’s backstory and all the iconography that foreshadows or refers back to elements in the narration.
The narrator did a great job at varying all those voices, though I would say the American accent might need a little sprucing up. :)

“Arrival” on steroids

Peter Kenny is a remarkable reader. He draws out the heartfelt sensibilities of human nature that Ascension lays out.

Ode to love

For the most part I had no idea what was going on. It was a well written tale, different, sad but afterwards I like the characters had no idea what had happened.

l loved this book, It's about a mountain but actually is a book with great depth too!. l would have liked more description of the environment but the story has an allegorical aspect so it wasn't so important that it ruined the story. Faultless narration, perfect for the story

A real gem of a good read
