About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
An instant #1 New York Times bestseller
The funny, touching and unpredictable novel from the 15 million copy internationally bestselling author of A Man Called Ove.
In a small town in Sweden it appears to be an ordinary day. But look more closely, and you'll see a mysterious masked figure approaching a bank...
Two hours later, chaos has descended. A bungled attempted robbery has developed into a hostage situation - and the offender is refusing to communicate their demands to the police.
Within the building, fear quickly turns to irritation for the seven strangers trapped inside. If this is to be their last day on earth, shouldn't it be a bit more dramatic?
But as the minutes tick by, they begin to suspect that the criminal mastermind holding them hostage might be more in need of rescuing than they are...

I've given this a 4 because the book is a bit confusing at first, moving between character and time. But mostly it's so annoying to narrate a story of Swedish people with an American accent. This imposes a completely different culture onto these characters and changes the nature of the characters and their story. The narrator herself was fine, just not right for this Swedish story.
A warm and funny study of people

Fun read.

Frederick Blackman gets to the heart of what it means to be human, how our lives are interconnected without us realising it, and how we share so much with those around us, despite differences in background, age or upbringing. The story is told with humour, and I realised again how important this is, even in the most challenging of circumstances. I loved this book, and will be recommending to everyone I know!
Beautiful, memorable, thought provoking…
