About this listen

Another Life is a powerful, moving and hopeful story of the life-changing impact of the connections we form, by the bestselling author of The Four Winds and The Women, Kristin Hannah.

Angie DeSaria has spent years of her life trying to have a child. Now, her marriage has crumbled under the strain. Adrift and alone, she returns to her childhood home, a small coastal town in the Pacific Northwest, to help try and rescue the beloved, failing family business.

Lauren Ribido is a senior in high school. She dreams of an Ivy League education, escaping her hometown and her troubled mother.

When Angie hires Lauren to work at the restaurant, they form an immediate bond, which deepens when Lauren’s mother abruptly leaves town and Angie offers her a place to stay. But nothing could have prepared Angie for the far-reaching repercussions of this act of kindness. Together, these two women – one who longs for a child and the other who longs for a mother’s love – will be tested in ways that neither could have imagined.

Very moving story

Loved this story and felt as though I was part of it - could visualise all the locations. This is narrated brilliantly
Didn’t want it to end and must admit had a tear in my eye!

Beautiful

I have been listening to audiobooks books for a long time, when I’m going to sleep or I’m driving but the books by this wonderful writer are different, I turn off the tv, I just can’t turn them off, I close my eyes and it’s like watching a movie in my mind. Her descriptions are just wonderful, I will always remember these books such a privilege to have found Kristin Hannah and Susan Erickson

Heartfelt story

I didn’t like switching from chapter to chapter within the book that wasn’t in sink with the audio chapters- it meant it was difficult sometimes to guess (in earlier chapters) when the story changed to alternate characters.

Compelling

I am a huge fan of KH’s work from the tense background of The Nightingale to the sweeping descriptions of Alaska in The Great Alone. Each novel is very different, but each contains beautifully drawn characters and highlights the complicated connections between them. Whilst the outcome of this story was predictable, the growing maturity and self awareness of the characters made it a compelling read. I was fully invested in each person, and although I don’t often cry when reading, I was moved to tears on a couple of occasions. Congratulations to Susan Ericksen for her flawless narration, no jarring voices just a serene interpretation. I was stuck in that awful dilemma of not wanting to finish, but being unable to stop listening. I can imagine a sequel to this, plenty to catch up on… Any chance?

Another Kristin Hannah book that I’ve loved

I kinda knew and hoped I was right with the ending and was happy that I was. Loved the book but felt very angry about Lauren’s mum
