Als Dunne morgens zur Schule gegangen ist, war noch alles wie immer. Aber jetzt wird das ganze Leben anders. Kurz vor ihren ersten Sommerferien passiert etwas, das Dunnes glückliches Leben erschüttert: Ihr Papa wird von einem Auto angefahren. Jetzt liegt er im Krankenhaus und schläft ganz tief. Dunne möchte nur eines: Papa sehen! Als sie an seinem Bett steht, ruft sie ganz leise, dann immer lauter seinen Namen. Tatsächlich schlägt er seine Augen auf - wenn auch nur für einen Moment. Papa wird wieder gesund werden, muss aber den ganzen Sommer im Krankenhaus bleiben. Da hat Großmutter die Idee, dass Dunne doch mit Ella Frida auf deren Sommerinsel fahren könnte...
