Late one summer, the town of Monta Clare is shattered by the abduction of teenager Joseph 'Patch' Macauley. Nobody more so than Saint Brown, who will risk everything to find her best friend.

But when she does: it will break her heart.

Patch lies alone in a pitch-black room - until he feels a hand in his. Her name is Grace and, though they cannot see each other, she lights their world with her words.

But when he escapes: there is no sign she ever even existed.

Left with only her voice and her name, he paints her from broken memories - and charts an epic search to find her.

As years turn to decades, and hope becomes obsession, Saint will shadow his journey - on a darker path to hunt down the man who took them - and set free the only boy she ever loved.

Even if finding the truth means losing each other forever...

Epic

I absolutely loved this book. I wouldn’t usually listen to a book with child abduction at its core, but it’s not gratuitous. Don’t listen to this book while driving- it’s too engrossing.

Great story with lots of twists

Very well narrated. Couldn’t stop listening. The story was intriguing the whole way through. Haven’t been so caught up with a book in a long time

Compelling, different and brilliant

Very different but relatable characters. The plot keeps twisting and I really enjoyed this novel - works with many emotions and isn’t like the usual serial killer books. Would strongly recommend this novel

Staggeringly Good

Beautifully written prose and expertly narrated. Storyline occasionally pushes the boundaries of credibility but the plot suffers no less as a result.

Wonderful .

This rates as one of those unforgettable books that will stay with me and I will recommend to everyone . With nods to To Kill a Mockingbird , Room and Where the Crawdads sing it is a coming of age story , a love story and a crime thriller . Beautifully written , emotional and sometimes bleak just stick with it and you won’t regret it . Simply sublime .

Incredible plot - an absolutely gripping read.

Couldn’t have loved this more. All the characters are impeccably crafted, each with their own story. Just when you think you have everything worked out, you are taken somewhere else.

Exciting, nerve wracking, infuriating, sad, funny, tense. Stunning in every way.

Beautifully crafted.

Touched my heart and soul

Narrator is truly empathetic to the story and characters. Such a wonderful story of broken hearts, friendships and focus. Thank you to the author and narrator xx

Beautiful complicated story of love

A narrator can make or break a book and this one was read perfectly.
I loved the characters and the story kept me gripped. Not to be rushed, let yourself be immersed. I cleaned a whole house, and weeded an entire garden listening to it and I didn’t even feel it (until the next morning).
A true epic in length and content but I could listen to it all over again. And I’m pretty sure I will one day, but not yet. My heart needs to rest.
