About this listen

Lewis Carroll's enduring tale begins with Alice chasing the White Rabbit down a rabbit hole, where she encounters a world of delightfully eccentric characters like the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Cheshire Cat, the Mock Turtle, and the Queen of Hearts. Throughout her fantastic journeys, Alice retains her reason, humor, and sense of justice.

Alice has become one of the great characters of imaginative literature, as immortal as Don Quixote, Huckleberry Finn, or Dorothy Gale. Her adventures appeal to adults as well as children because they can be read on many levels: a satire on language, a political allegory, or a parody of Victorian children's literature. Many view the story as a fairy tale about the trials and tribulations of growing up - or down, or all turned around - as seen through the expert eyes of a child.

Critic reviews

"Only Lewis Carroll has shown us the world upside down as a child sees it, and has made us laugh as children laugh." (Virginia Woolf)

I think it's a good idea to have a look at the example and see where to go from there. If you want to charge for a coffee or something else I can do it.

Lovely classic. I just adore this story. One can not go wrong with a classic and despite being a children's book I find it enchanting. However, I firmly believe that Lewis Carroll was on something quite strong when he wrote this story. On KU with free audio.

A really great version of the classic book. Michael York's voice is enough to relax anyone even after a hard day at work. his characterisations are witty and engaging. chapters are around 15 minutes long so you can listen on breaks/lunch etc. I recommend this audio book.
