Toil and trouble in store for Agatha!
Cotswolds inhabitants are used to bad weather, but the night sky is especially foggy as Rory and Molly Harris, the new vicar and his wife, drive slowly home from a dinner party in their village of Sumpton Harcourt. They struggle to see the road ahead - but then screech to a halt. Right in front of them, aglow in the headlights of their car, a body hangs from a lightning-blasted tree at the edge of town. But it's not suicide; Margaret Darby, an elderly spinster of the parish, has been murdered - and the villagers are bewildered as to who would commit such a crime, and why.
Agatha Raisin rises to the occasion, delighted to have some excitement back in her life as if truth be told, she was getting bored of the long run of lost cats and divorces on the books. But Sumpton Harcourt is an isolated and unfriendly village, she finds a place that poses more questions than answers. And when two more murders follow the first, Agatha begins to fear for her reputation - and her life. That the village has its own coven of witches certainly doesn't make her feel any better...

Jolly Hockey Sticks
If you could sum up Agatha Raisin: The Witches' Tree in three words, what would they be?
Daft, posh, entertaining.
What did you like best about this story?
It's a typical Midsomer Murders type story but with posh people and a sexually frustrated detective.
What does Penelope Keith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
A very posh voice and an actor's timing.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No.

This was my first Agatha Raisin, I know, why start at book 28 then... It was ok but I won't rush to get another. Rollicking good fun and all that and very good if you like that kind of thing. Not a bad use of a credit all in all.

Another success for Beaton who never fails to deliver brilliant plots
Never disappointed with Beaton.Penelope Keith brilliant as usual. agatha remains a great character who is funny,entertaining and who you empathise with.

Which witch was it ?
Penelope Keith makes this story live. It’s not anything above pleasant and the norm but it is enjoyable to listen to. The story line gets a few twists and turns /red herrings and is quite an interesting take .

Fun and Entertaining.
How lovely to meet up again with Agatha Raisin, Charles, Mrs Bloxby et al. Another fun story and so beautifully read by Penelope Keith who, for me while she is reading, is Agatha. A sparkling fun listen

Quite entertaining but
Much as I like Penelope Keith, I found her reading almost grating. Almost all the characters sounded so plum in mouth, it was difficult to distinguish one from another. Great actress as Penelope is, she can’t carry off mens voices very well.

A fun reassuring listen
Outstanding narrator. Very clear voice and great mimic of different characters. I found listening anxiety reducing. Bought on daily deal. Well worth it!

Another great book from the pen of M. C. Beaton, brilliantly read by the superb Penelope Keith.
