About this listen

'Every new Agatha Raisin escapade is a total joy' ASHLEY JENSEN

The first Agatha Raisin mystery from bestselling author M. C. Beaton

__________________________

Revenge is a dish best served warm...

High-flying public relations supremo Agatha Raisin has decided to take early retirement. She's off to make a new life in a picture-perfect Cotswold village. To make friends, she enters the local quiche-making competition - and to make quite sure of first prize she secretly pays a visit to a London deli.

Alas, the competition judge succumbs after tasting her perfect quiche, and Agatha is revealed as a cheat and potential poisoner. Definitely not the best start. So Agatha must turn amateur sleuth - she's absolutely got to track down the real killer!

I have read the book before listening to this, Penelope Kieth really brings the characters to life.

A nice bit of lighthearted fun

This was a lovely bit of lighthearted fun. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but bought it on the recommendation of my Aunt, and I will be adding more books from the series over the coming months. And of course I don't think you can ever go wrong with Penelope Keith narrating.

Addictive!

Little did I know it, but my first Agatha Raisin novel would become an addiction that cost me a fortune, thanks to the winning combination of MC Beaton's witty stories & loveable characters, & Penelope Keith's funny & smart narration. I have to admit I spent way too much of Summer 2021 chilling to this series!

The jury inside my head is out on the newer stories, written by RW Green after the sad death of MC Beaton, but I would definitely recommend the 'real' MC Beaton Agatha Raisin novels, if you want a bit of light relief, & an insight into the alpha 50+ woman!

So entertaining: Ms Keith never disappoints.

Penelope Keith is the female equivalent of Martin Jarvis. Anything either of them reads is sure to impress.
Ms Keith's beautiful enunciation is a joy. Every word is pronounced clearly and correctly. The story is, in a way, irrelevant, as it is just such a pleasure to listen to her wonderful voice, whatever she says. She could read a phone directory and it would be enjoyable.
However, not a bad story at all. Not an amazing story, and I certainly wouldn't buy the Agatha Raisin books that are narrated by someone else. Yet strangely addictive: escapism into the Cotswold World where Agatha Raisin has her adventures. Fairly simple, non-complicated, predictable stuff that successfully removes one from the real world.

Easy reading

I love these books, they are easy to read but have a good story behind them. Agatha Raisin does the business, brilliantly read by Penelope Keith.
