KJ is a small town boy who moves from Greenville, Mississippi, to Chicago. He is mesmerized by the big city, bright lights, skyscrapers, and basketball. He finds interest in Paulina, a pretty brown skin girl in his fifth grade class. Hanging out with the older boys in the neighborhood leads KJ on the path to dropping out of school.
