About this listen

Like many teenagers, there's a lot about Daniel Meadows' life that's out of his control. For example, having to start in a new school district for his freshman year of high school thanks to his dad's new job. Inside the realm of his control, however, is the decision to try a brand-new sport purely to impress a girl.

But the day of tennis tryouts proves far more fateful than Dan ever could have imagined, when a failed attempt by Truck-kun and the powers that be to kill him and transport his consciousness to a fantasy realm leaves him on Earth with miraculous abilities instead.

Stuck on his boring home planet with magical powers to harness and learn, Dan finds himself in a unique situation. Will he use his powers for greatness? Will he abuse them? Or will he simply use them to become the greatest tennis player ever just to chase the girl of his dreams?

Who knows? After all, its freshman year and he's got a long way to go. This slice-of-life tennis LitRPG serves up progression, sports, and fun in one hilarious series.

Refreshing Series

First off all I have to admit that I‘m a sucker for good sport related stories and well this Book perfectly falls into this category.

In this captivating novel, we follow Danny – a young and ambitious individual – on his journey to become a tennis prodigy. Combined with the litRPG elements it makes for a very refreshing experience. These game-like mechanics allow us to witness Danny’s growth firsthand, which adds an exciting layer to the narrative.

The characters in this book are delightful. Their interactions felt genuine and I found myself rooting for them throughout. As Danny navigates the challenges of the tennis world, we see friendships form and rivalries ignite. The gradual development of these relationships over the course of the book is one of its strongest points. The plot itself is a rollercoaster of emotions. From intense matches on the court to personal struggles behind the scenes, the author weaves a compelling tale.

Now, let’s talk about the narration. Ryan’s performance was top-notch, as expected from an SBT release. His ability to bring the characters to life enhanced the overall experience. I eagerly await his next projects. I’m sure they’ll be equally captivating.

In summary, this book has earned a permanent spot on my favourites list and I'm looking forward to the 2nd book. If you’re a fan of sports or litRPG stories, don’t hesitate and give it a try!

Lost in No Man's Land

An interesting twist on the isekai trope. Being stuck on earth was inspired. I can see the potential for many more stories with this hook.

Overall the tennis angle was interesting but not really my cup of tea. Also the story seemed to end right in the middle, like there was an act missing.

Overall though if sports and tennis especially is your jam this will definitely land.

Performance by the SBT crew was amazing as always.

Loved and hated the voice changes

I loved the fact that there were different voices for each character, but when switching from female to male voices and vice versa, the audio is not consistent which can be quite jarring.

Different from your usual LitRPG

Ok, we all know this story is about tennis, not some fantasy realm or sci-fi land, but it works. You don't need to be a tennis nut to enjoy it and to be honest, by the end of the story I was disappointed it had stopped.

Without giving anything away Dan is the weak underdog style beginner to the story but it doesn't develop in the usual linear manner. The skill mechanics make it a little different, but in a good way.

The audio performances were great (as per usual from Soundbooth) and I'd strongly recommend.

Balls, Balls and more Balls!!!

This was an interesting take on the whole isekai theme, focusing more on what would happen if you got the powers of a game hero but never actually left earth. The answer in this case was play tennis and mistakenly seduce anyone with too low a charisma check to beat his.

The only negative i had to say about this was that i would of liked more of the actual magic system to used/explored as at times it seemed mainly slice of life instead of gamelit but this is a minor issues and is a personal oppinion that others may disagree with.

Overall this would be a great book for people who already enjoy tennis but with a hint of gamelit. Despite this it could still be followed easily enough even if like me you dont know the rules or terms of tennis, if the theme interests you.

Isekai but stays here

i enjoyed the idea of the hero dealing with the changes that occurred whilst remaining in our world. The book was heavily focused on the sport of tennis as the method for advancement (rather than fighting monsters) which made it more accessible for younger audiences. I also felt the hero being 14 and the struggles they had to deal with (interpersonal relationships, parental issues, first crushes) made the book a lot more suitable for younger audiences than myself - but I would definitely recommend to young adult audiences.
Narrator was great - i listened on 1.2 speed as normal.

An interesting change

Different theme being a tennis setting with a failed isekei event, while the style and main theme is my thing and the performance by sbt is great as always the story didn't really grab me after about an hour of listening and i haven't gone back to it.
