About this listen

For centuries, the people of Alera have relied on the power of the furies to protect them from outside invaders. But the gravest threat might be closer than they think.

Tavi has escaped the Calderon Valley and the mysterious attack of the Marat on his homeland. But he is far from safe, as trying to keep up the illusion of being a student while secretly training as one of the First Lord's spies is a dangerous game. And he has not yet learned to use the furies, making him especially vulnerable.

When the attack comes it's on two fronts. A sudden strike threatens the First Lord's life and threatens to plunge the land into civil war. While in the Calderon Valley, the threat faced from the Marat is dwarfed by an ancient menace. And Tavi must learn to harness the furies if he has any chance of fighting the greatest threat Alera has ever known....

Amazing book

The story is amazing, on of my favourite series. There are horns that play intermittantly which make it difficult to stay immersed. Please remove the horns

Good story let down by trumpets

I enjoyed the continuation of Tavi's story. However this particular chapter was let down by Trumpets sounding off every so often which spoilt the otherwise excellent narration. Also there are a couple of teasers at the end regarding Tavi's true heritage

The series gathers pace.

A satisfying second book that begins to gather pace and flesh out the wider story.

The narrator does a good job, although with Jim Butchers penchant for deep voices, Kate struggles a little in her characterisation. It's not a big issue though.

I'd recommend these books to fans of the genre. Not genre defining but a good listen for sure.

annoying trumpets

I really enjoy this series but those trumpets that pop up for no seeming reason are driving me nuts

Narration Problems

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It's a good story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Academ's Fury?

The battle to protect the High Lord.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The use of American pronunciation for basic English words was irritating beyond belief. There were many instances but, missile, fragile and lever will serve as examples.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No.

Any additional comments?

The editing was poor. The sound quality altered dramatically every time a word or sentence was spliced into the narrative which broke concentration and spoiled an otherwise good book.

Brilliant book

Amazing book, the intricacies of the story are unparalleled. The performance is very good, however that seems to be breaks at random points here and there.
