About this listen

Nominated for the Audiobook Download of the Year, 2008.

With a twisting plot of false accusation and revenge, A Prisoner of Birth is an exhilarating novel from bestselling author, Jeffrey Archer.

If Danny Cartwright had proposed to Beth Wilson the day before, or the day after, he would not have been arrested and charged with the murder of his best friend.

And when the four prosecution witnesses are a barrister, a popular actor, an aristocrat and the youngest partner in an established firm's history, who is going to believe his side of the story.

Danny is sentenced to twenty-two years and is sent to Belmarsh prison, the highest security jail in the land, from where no inmate has ever escaped.

But everyone has underestimated Danny's determination to seek revenge and Beth's relentless quest to win justice . . .

This is the first time I have listened to or read anything by Jeffrey Archer so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this turned out to be one of the best audio books I have heard so far. Great story telling and a good narrator.

This book has all the hallmarks of an Archer Novel with the twists and turns and the “boy done well” character as the hero. Only criticism is that at times the lead character is a little too perfect maybe

The narrator is superb and just adds to the drama

Another archer master class

The story was addictive. At first I found the voice of the narrator monotonous, however once he got into the book he did a great job of making each of the characters feel unique and authentic.

I enjoyed the book. Good story, although a little implausible at times. The characters are a bit black and white, very good or very bad, not much grey. Enjoyed the court room scenes.

Good story
