About this listen

The new self-development programme from the author of the smash best seller The Chimp Paradox.

All of us face challenges, rough patches and struggles in life. And during these times we are often our own worst enemies, experiencing unwelcome emotions, thoughts and behaviours. The one thing that has stood out to Professor Peters in his years of supporting people as a Consultant Psychiatrist is that no matter what you may be facing in life, if you have the right mental toolkit in place then you will be able to cope - and even thrive.

Now, the best-selling author of The Chimp Paradox, has created a structured, practical self-development programme to help you attain psychological health and wellbeing. Professor Peters explains complex neuroscience in straightforward terms with his Chimp Mind Model. The eight stages of the book will help you to focus, empower yourself and lead you along a path to robustness and resilience.

“I sincerely hope that you will find the book helpful, and that the jungle of life will become much more manageable, as you find your own inner strength." (Professor Peters)

The Haynes Manual For The Mind

If you loved the original chimp management book, you'll love this.
Yes it's long and quite complicated at times, but so are we.
A book to revisit and keep as a reference to how our noggins really work

Fantastic insight into how the mind works!

What a fantastic book. Gives a great insight into how the mind works, using non complicated language. I particularly enjoyed that it was read by the author, Prof Steve Peters. Contains great tips for understanding your ‘chimp’ and your own reactions and the reactions of others, to difficult situations and stress, using example scenarios. Can highly recommend!

Excellent. Teaches life skills relevant to all.

The analogy of a Chimp brain is perfect. It makes it easy to understand what is happening on a physiological level, which consequently allows you to literally take a step back and review the situation, whatever that might be, and respond with your rational, reasoning mind instead.
I have found this book very helpful in many aspects of life, from dealing with tense situations or difficult people, to helping present opinions in a much more persuasive and effective way, to controlling my compulsion to overeat.
I thoroughly recommend this book, although without wishing to be petty... I perhaps would have preferred a different reader! (Sorry!)

Mind changing

Very rarely you come across a book that truly alters your beliefs and perceptions about yourself and others. This is definitely one of those books. Having completed the audio version I also bought a hard copy to have on my desk for when I need resetting.

Absolute treat

It took me a while to work out that he's a distinguished academic and was narrating it. Such a gentle way to explain the intricacies of life and the psyche and also psychotherapy. The Adult, Parent and Child archetypes etc. So much to process now it's finished. Thank you for this xxx

A book for life!

I can’t recommend Professor Steve Peters books enough.
“The Chimp paradox” and “A path through the Jungle” help me to understand myself and be my true self buried under layers of unhelpful programming.
That is a book and a path for lifelong learning and development.
