About this listen
Liverpool, 1961. A group of young men come together seeking fame and fortune as the fledgling sounds of the Swinging '60s take root in the city. Soon, Liverpool becomes synonymous with the groups and music that shape a generation.
Liverpool, 1999. Skeletal remains found in the docklands lead Detective Inspector Andy Ross and Sergeant Izzie Drake into a journey through time as the investigation takes them back to early days of the Mersey Beat.
Whose bones laid beneath the mud of the River Mersey for over thirty years, and what links them to a young woman missing for the entire time?

Enjoyed
Found this book quite moving - lost love and unfulfilled dreams. I know nothing of the police apart from reading novels, but I felt as though this had realism and professionalism that is lacking in a lot of police procedurals. Good story - listened in one sitting. Narrator had some strange pronunciations and random pauses in dialogue BUT was very good at being able to differentiate between characters.

Very enjoyable
I really enjoyed this book. Only a few dodgy moments withe the accent. Some strange long pauses in the narrative, but otherwise a really good listen.

Good tale .Dodgy accents
Interesting tale well worth the listen. Having grown up in Liverpool and still live there I enjoyed the local references . Some of the accents were a bit odd but the tale was strong enough to carry you through without it spoiling anything. All in all very good.

Mispronounced words
This is a very interesting plot, although a little shaky. My biggest bugbear was with the constant mispronunciation of everyday words ie indictment pronounced indict ment. Very irritating, and I found it distracting. I agree with other reviewers vis a vie the accents. They were a bit all over the place. Having said all that, overall it was enjoyable.

Wow
I don’t normally leave a review as I listen to so many books but this one just touched my soul, I listened in one day as couldn’t stop listening!
The story was absolutely brilliant I fell in love with the young characters and felt their whole presence it was obviously not hard to know from early on what had happened but I still wanted to hear every single word to the end and when the end came my heart aching, totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of emotions that I felt and loved everything about this story I will definitely listen to more from this author, outstanding book 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Beautiful story
A beautiful and heart wrenching story within the intrigue of a gripping thriller that at the end had me in tears. Perhaps because I identified strongly with the period I found this audio book a wonderful look at a bygone period told through an investigation of modern technology. I thoroughly recommend this book.

Good plot
I enjoyed the storyline of this novel, the characters were relatable. However the narration left a bit to be desired with mispronunciations my favourite being a member of the press corps pronounced corpse. Also the Americanisation is annoying. In the UK emergency vehicles have blue lights and we perform a post mortem not an autopsy petty I know but working in the NHS these things really annoy.

Annoying narrator
As others have said there is no excuse for the mispronounciation of common words. Really unprofessional. I also found her delivery stilted and the accents were all over the place.
Though I found the story interesting I thought some parts of it were clunky and some of the conversations between characters stilted and false.
The author resorted to well-worn cliches on too many occasions which set my teeth on edge. I won't be reading any more in the series

Remarkably involving novel
Brian L Porter has written a brilliant novel. I listened to it while in hospital and it immediately immersed me in the story set partly in a wonderful time when my husband and I started our 52 year old romance in 1961. It vividly recreated the 60s, a time of such change and optimism. The detective 1990s element of this novel is also well written and intriguing and, unusually for me, the ending actually had me crying. Brilliant writing.
However the narrator mispronounced so many words she had me gritting my teeth. Where on earth was she educated!
