About this listen

Can an arranged marriage be arranged?

When the two plainest people in London enter into an arranged marriage, the ton isn't so much surprised as counting the days to an arranged separation. Louise is too short, too dull, and too dowdy, and the earl is positively frightening, with his frowning demeanor and massive shoulders. He's willing to marry her because he doesn't expect a dowdy wife to impact his lifestyle and other relationships. She's willing to marry him because ugly and unmannerly as he is, she is—for some unaccountable reason—drawn to the man.

Louise vows to arrange the marriage to her own satisfaction, but when he appears to have another love interest, her anger and sorrow lead her to make a big mistake, which he responds to just as foolishly.

Ah me! The course of true love ne'er did run smooth!

I found the story to be very interesting and I liked it very much.
However i don’t think I will buy or listen to any others as I found the narration to be very difficult at times. The voice was monotone. Sound variation was not story telling at all and was quite off putting the up and down in pitch where it was to be found made it difficult to catch end of sentence’s even with volume up full or ear phones in.

Story was good

I loved the story and it is really well-written. The author reads well but she doesn't perform.

Authors seldom narrate adequately

This was a nice cosy Regency novel (the second of hers that I’ve listened to), but unfortunately it is spoiled by the author narrating it herself! She just doesn’t have the voice for it. She has neither range or drama, she cannot make her voice sound younger than she is and her natural voice is raspy (like a smokers cough). The stories are good, but she doesn’t do her written talent ANY FAVOURS with her narration skills (or lack thereof). You don’t enjoy it as much as you should.

I’m going to try the next title using my Amazon Alexa narration! The Kindle editions are on KU and I won’t subsequently bemoan the cost of a credit!

The very Poor Narration!

The story is good and there is nothing wrong with the reading but, where was this recorded? In someone's kitchen?
I listen to audio books all the time, and there is a distinctive lack of immersive, studio quality sound to this recording that it is most off putting. Spoils an otherwise very good story.

What a shame
