Neal Carey is not your usual private eye. A graduate student at Columbia University, he grew up on the streets of New York, usually on the wrong side of the law. The problem is that she’s gone underground in the London punk scene. To get her back, Neal has to follow her into a violent netherworld where drugs run rampant and rage is the name of the game.

Enjoyable story and decent narration, though the London/cockney accent wavered somewhere between Australian and a Dick Van Dyke chimney sweep.

A nothing experience - weak narrative and characters - a far cry from his current compelling cartel themed novels. Will be returning this one.

nobody in the UK calls a wallet a purse. a purse is a ladies wallet. We also don't call a car an auto. I've never heard worse accents in any book. Cockney sounded Irish and Yorkshire sounded a cross between Scottish and Irish. Not one English accent was anywhere near authentic

The plot of the story was pretty good but it was spoilt by the terrible mannerisms of the London characters and the accent was more Irish at times than London

Offensive English accent

Filled with every perceived stereotype the Americans have about the English, delivered with some of the worst UK accents I’ve ever listened to!

It was going ok up until the narrator started his English accents!

If you're looking for a war on drugs level thriller this will disappoint.
I think if I'd read this I'd have enjoyed it but Sweet Jesus the accents!! Irish (mine so especially offensive), English, Pakistani and Chinese -not necessarily in that order of offence - were varying degrees of awful. AWFUL!!!

An American observes the real London. One of those books I didn't want to end. My first Don Winslow - where have you been all my life? Great story. Fabulous writing - the drugged up punk music concert must be the finest example of psychic distance / stream of consciousness. Brilliant.
