…but not the best of the author’s work. I love the way it forms part of his interconnected world of possible future events, and there are so many good ideas.
But the world building and ideas were a lot stronger than the plot, which at times felt like a vehicle to explore the world, rather than being something thrusting things forward organically.
Narrator was Ok but a bit wooden (ie good for the AI characters, but less good for the humans!!;-))

Apart from the author’s odd obsessive hatred of China throughout all of their books, including this 1, this has been an incredible read!

Certainly for giving us a glimpse of a potential post-capitalist world. No utopia but a realistic communist civilisation expanding out into the stars!

Enjoyed this story however as a non-Chinese living in China long term I did find myself cringing a bit at the narrator’s mispronunciations. It didn’t detract much from the overall enjoyment though. Well read.

This is an incredibly Long and incredibly boring book. The characters are ridiculous who you learn to hate. DO NOT BOTHER!

I did listen this audiobook for a few hours, but I gave up. Purchased it as it was in some weird ranking almost number one, not for me though. It's a mess and .....ohhh never mind, I want to forget about it anyway.

It's a mess, ....

I am a massive sci fi consumer but this is painful! It’s so disjointed with so much introspection it’s easy to get utterly lost. Great ideas just ruined with a scatter gun narrative. I ended up so lost I gave up and can not find the mental energy to try and finish it.

I was totally absorbed by the Mars Trilogy from the writing style to the science content and attention that KSR pays to building a fiction story on top of science fact.

Unfortunately this book hasn't quite lived up to that standard. I wonder if it is the narrator who manages in places to sound like a computer generated voice. The narrator's intonation also makes following some of the dialogue very difficult and their slightly flat tone borders on boring in places - perhaps I've been spoilt by Richard Ferrone's narration and I am being harsh.

Finally I think there is some kind of technical issue with this recording and there are about 10 or so places where the last word of a sentence is missing. I thought at first it was my imagination or an issue with my playback device but I have checked and also played back some places to other people who have confirmed it.
