About this listen
Sam Becker loves—or, okay, likes—his job. Sure, managing a bed-and-bath retailer isn't exactly glamorous, but it's good work, and he gets on well with the band of misfits who keep the store running. He could see himself being content here for the long haul. Too bad, then, that the owner is an infuriating git.
Jonathan Forest should never have hired Sam. It was a sentimental decision, and Jonathan didn't get where he is by following his heart. Determined to set things right, Jonathan orders Sam down to London for a difficult talk…only for a panicking Sam to trip, bump his head, and maybe accidentally imply he doesn't remember anything?
Faking amnesia seemed like a good idea when Sam was afraid he was getting sacked, but now he has to deal with the reality of Jonathan's guilt—as well as the unsettling fact that his surly boss might have a softer side to him. There's an unexpected freedom in getting a second shot at a first impression…but as Sam and Jonathan grow closer, can Sam really bring himself to tell the truth, or will their future be built entirely on one impulsive lie?

A fantastic book and a stunning performance
I will admit that I’m always pretty much guaranteed love anything by Alexis Hall but this book blew away my expectations and set the bar to a new high. It was a fantastic read, start to finish, and Will Watt’s narration of it was above and beyond brilliant, from start to finish.

Totally awesome!
I utterly adored this one. Great romantic plot, an awesome narrator with a delicious accent, and just a wonderful mix of awkward, real and ridiculous to make it memorable.

Such a witty story and oh so British
Sam is just the average everyday shop manager and when he receives an ominous summons from his boss, does everything in his power to save his team and his store from the grump that is Jonathan Forest, including one very big lie. Sam ends up becoming wrapped up in his own lie, in Jonathan and in Jonathan's family Christmas.
Jonathan is very much aloof but begins to thaw when he is forced to take care of Sam. After he falls for Sam's cat, he slowly warms to Sam and finds himself being slowly turned from a grinch into well.... less of a grinch. But when the truth comes out will their fledgling relationship survive?
I love Alexis Hall's brand of humour and social commentary, and this book made me smile from start to finish. It is just so British.
I adored all the colourful characters, Alexis is just so good at bringing to life on the page. I also got a kick out of the LOTR references. I also may have spent the last 50 minutes or so biting my nails, wondering how it was all going to turn out. And it didn't end quite as I anticipated, which I love.
Will Watt, did an amazing job of the narration. His Liverpudlian and Sheffield accents were spot on. His narration enhances the story even further and makes you fall harder for these amazing characters.

Light-hearted easy listen
A very easy listen, great performance and funny! It didn't take long to finish because as the story progresses, you get wrapped up in wanting to find out what happens with the 2 main characters who lead such different lives. Worth a listen!

Great narrated feel good love story
The story is a bit formulaic but original and lively in the details. It’s funny, well written and entertaining. The narration is excellent. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Boyfriend Material, and would like to listen or read something similar.

My heart is a melted mess on the floor
Alexis Hall is a master of the romcom genre. This book, much like the London Calling series, is hilarious, riveting, and instantly heartwarming. Jonathan and Sam are an unlikely pairing that just work - like mango and chilli.
Shoutout to the narrator and production - I binged this 10 hour audio in 1.5 days (needless to say I got absolutely nothing else done, but that’s my problem).

A fun and entertaining listen
Whilst a predicable enough outcome it was a very fun journey. A nicely written story, with some good characters and excellent narration
