'A sceptic's guide to meditation . . . I loved it' - Ruby Wax

'An enormously smart, clear-eyed, brave-hearted, and quite a personal look at the benefits of meditation' - Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat Pray Love

We all have an inner narrator. It's what has us losing our temper unnecessarily, checking our emails compulsively, eating when we're not hungry, and fixating on the past and the future at the expense of the present. Most of us assume we're stuck with this voice - but Dan Harris stumbled upon an effective way to quiet his mind.

After having a nationally televised panic attack on Good Morning America, Harris knew he had to make some changes. A lifelong nonbeliever, he found himself on a bizarre adventure involving a disgraced pastor, a mysterious self-help guru, and a gaggle of brain scientists. Eventually, Harris realized that the source of his problems was the very thing he always thought was his greatest asset: the incessant, insatiable voice in his head.

10% Happier is considered a classic text on the power of meditation and an introduction to the practice that can convert even the most hardened sceptic.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. As someone who is learning to meditate who has the same reservations as Dan draws out in this book I found it reassuring that it is all part of the process. It has helped speed up my “journey” and understanding of the topic. Being from the UK and not really knowing who Dan Harris is- I had no preconceptions. There are parts where I laughed out loud, it’s entertaining and interesting story of Dan’s discovery of mindfulness. Thoroughly recommend this book!

Enlightening!! :-)

Excellent book - very sharp and real, informative and soothing as one recognises the author’s struggles and concerns.

Sharp, entertaining, helpful

A great story of personal discovery, and a sceptic's positive introduction to meditation without the silly spooky stuff. Dan's healthy and humorous cynisism still shines through to to the end as a valuable inoculation against woo smuggled in under the guise of mystery.

Great Autobiography + Meditation

A frank, insightful and often amusing story. I particularly enjoyed Dan's access to some of the spiritual 'big hitters and his unclouded commentary on his experience at the time. Thanks Dan for sharing this.

You may just get bored by his storey at the beginning but all make sense as soon as it gets to Retreat Chapter. I'm going to listen to it again in a month or two. I love the way he describes so well his vulnerability and the need of constant improvement in this journey, very western way towards mindfulness, cus he is almost or pretend to be against this practice, so it makes the whole experience much more acceptable. Thank you Dan!

It is a very interesting book, it doesn’t give you any scientific definitions about meditation, instead the author narrates his own experience with meditation, how he applied it to his own life, the doubts he felt during the journey and the positive changes he felt on himself.

I liked it very much because portrays the reality of what most people encounter when starting to meditate. It also tells you life or meditation is never pink but it is worth to try.

If you are looking for motivation and a friendly approach to meditation get the this book!

Perfect for skeptics about meditation

A very human story of one man's trials, failures and re-trials to find peace. He does not preach from an ivory tower.

Worth a listen!

I found this an excellent ‘soft’ introduction to mediation and it’s power. Empowering and interesting, well paced and thoughtful. I loved the stories and context, Dan’s narration is great and really added depth to the book. Well worth it!

An enjoyable trip
