Самая знаменитая из них, «Не оглядывайся», легла в основу мистического триллера английского режиссера Николаса Роуга с Дональдом Сазерлендом и Джули Кристи в главных ролях («А теперь не смотри», 1973). Все новеллы написаны уверенной рукой мастера, оригинально и увлекательно. Вероятно, точнее всего характер сборника определяет название рассказа «На грани»: в каждой истории автор подводит героев к интуитивному или осознанному выбору, нередко опасному.
