This is my first book by this author, and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to read one of her books. Her Kozlov Empire series (of which this series is a spin-off) has been on my TBR for ages. This is a forbidden love, age gap, mafia romance, where he falls first and hard. While it can be read without reading that series first. I think I would have enjoyed it even more, though, if I had read Shattered Crown, the last book in the Kozlov Empire series, before this because of the connection between the main characters in that book and this one. Also, there are mini spoilers for that book in this one.

There’s so much exciting stuff that happens in this book.

The chemistry between Liza and Roman is electric. Liza is a strong, selfless 25-year-old who puts her family’s comfort and happiness above her own. She’s very protective of her little sister and she’s smarter and more resourceful than she appears. Roman, who is 13 years older than her, is loyal to those he considers family, and sweet and caring towards Liza. She brings out a vulnerability in him that’s touching to see.

I enjoyed the narration of this book. Nikki Grey is new to me and I really enjoyed her portrayal of the strong, intelligent, loyal Liza. Stephen Dexter played the obsessed, protective, dominant Roman to a tee. His deep, gravelly voice was perfect for the steamy scenes and his portrayal of Roman in his vulnerable moments was very moving. I also enjoyed his portrayal of the villain Anatoly.

I bought this book cause I read on Kindle Shattered Crown: A Dark Mafia Age Gap Romance (Kozlov Empire Book 4) Maxim's story was written beautifully. The story was well thought out and we meet Roman and Liza. Unfortunately, this book is nowhere near as good. Liza gets on my nerves. She is surrounded by money and true friendships and yet she chooses to marry a deadbeat to pay one million pounds worth of debt that her family have run up. She doesn't want to ask her friends for help but would sell her soul instead. That's pocket change to these crime families. The story isn't believable. Her behaviour with Roman gets taxing and with each chapter, I'm just fed up of her. Even the spice doesn't interest me. This book could have been amazing, but it's like someone else wrote it. Something is missing, it's like the dots don't connect in this story. It does have a happy ending.

Roman has been drawn to Liza since he was her best friend Kiras bodyguard and now Liza is forced to marry Anthony to save her sister against their families debts, only now Roman is her bodyguard on a trip to London, and a secret visit to a auction club, sends them into a spiral together, but Roman doesn't plan on letting her go. Well written engaging steamy desires ,sizzling hot scenes and more! A great spin off series from shattered Crown.
Audio review- the narrators bring the story to life, there chemestry as the characters is inviting and easy to listen too.
